Cycle Safety
Know the rules!

As quite a few of you are cyclists and I would say all of us are drivers it’s always good to be reminded of cycle safety around the city. Yes it can be challenging for both drivers and cyclists but the more informed we are the easier it should become.

Tips for Drivers

Remember cyclists have the same rights as motorized vehicles on the road.

Being overtaken by a car can be scary, so give cyclists a wide berth of at least one metre.

Before opening a your car door, check for cyclists and other cars.

Indicate before turning so other road users know what you are doing.

Tips for Cyclists

Follow the road rules like other road users.

Ride slowly on paths shared with pedestrians.

Show courtesy to other road users, for example by dropping back to single file when passing parked cars or in narrow streets.

Use lights and wear reflective clothing at dawn, dusk, night and in poor visibility conditions.

Monitoring of cycle numbers in Auckland city since 2001 has shown a steady increase in cyclist numbers traveling at peak traffic times. At 12 monitored sites in Auckland city at morning peak times the number of cycle trips has increased by 7 % or more than 1600 cycle trips between 2006 and 2007. Cycleway projects currently underway include along Carrington and St Lukes Roads, Alfred and Princes Streets and Green Lane West.

If you come across a potential cycling hazard on Auckland city roads please call

379 2020.

Parking at the Clinic

As we all know parking in Ponsonby is at a premium, that’s why we are so lucky to have three car parks for our clinic; so we just need to remind you of a few helpful hints to ensure a smooth experience at Balance!

The first 3 carparks are the clinics, they are clearly marked. The rest of the carpark is our neighbours so please don’t park in their spot.

The parking is for your treatment time only, unfortunately not for coffees across the road as we have other clients arriving.

We usually have 15 minutes between clients so as to free up the parking for you, so if you are 15 to 20 minutes early there may not be a parking space available.

We also have 4 busy treatment rooms and only 3 car parks so sometimes you may have to hunt a park down on the street.

Also if you are early for your appointment and you find the back door locked please head around to the front door to ring the bell, as we can’t hear you knocking on the back door. We have to keep the doors locked while we are in appointments for security reasons.

Thank you for your understanding!!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to all of you awesome athletes who did Ironman 2008 on 1st March,

especially Jo Tacon who made her debut with an outstanding time of 12hrs 10min and 27seconds and is now off to Kona, Hawaii for the World Champs in October!

Superb effort Jo!!
