Goodbye 2009,
Merry Christmas and Hello 2010!!

Well it's been an up and down year for a lot of people, including Balance but we have survived with smiles on our faces.
It's been a fabulous year for many other reasons though...

great sporting achievements by many of our clients,
new babies born and more on the way (even to our own Ada, a beautiful baby boy, and ex-balance therapists Megan ( baby girl), Emma (on the way)),
we welcomed our nutrionist Mikki in March,
we survived the new footpaths in April,
new alliance with Shoe Clinic in Ponsonby,
weekly prize draws in June,
3rd year in a row providing massage at Run Auckland events,
went to HTML newsletter format in July,
new alliance with Peak Pilates in Grey Lynn in August,
we turned FIVE YEARS OLD in September,
raised money for Ronald McDonald House in October,
welcomed Miwa our newest therapist in October,
launched our Facebook page in November.

Come see us outside Shoe Clinic Ponsonby Rd this Saturday 5th December for a FREE Chair massage for the Ponsonby Christmas Party!!
W
hew!

But the main inspiration that keeps us motivated is YOU!
We love what we do and we love that we can make a difference for you and we hope to continue that in 2010.
And with more exciting developments in 2010 we can't wait to share with you!

Thank you for being a Balance client and we hope you feel Balanced because of it.
Much love,
Your team at Balance...Jane, Lisa, Sue, Viv, Ada, Miwa and Lynda

Tips to Avoiding Injury

Never train hard when stiff from the previous effort.

Introduce new activities very gradually.

Allow lots of time for warming up and cooling off.

Daily stretching, especially after exercise.

Check over training and competition courses beforehand.

Train on different surfaces, using the correct footwear.

Shower and change immediately after cooling off.

Aim for maximum comfort when traveling to an event.

Stay away from infectious areas when training or competing.

Be extremely fussy about hygiene in hot weather.

Monitor the athlete daily for signs of fatigue or overtraining.

Stay well hydrated and fuelled with the right foods.

Minimise niggles by applying ice or heat and Antiflamme.

Sports Injury Bulletin

And of course by receiving regular massage you will also be reducing your risk of injury.
Massage helps to flush out those nasty toxins such as lactic acid that build up in your muscles from training and it helps the muscles to resume their normal resting length so they are ready to give maximum effort next training session or competition.

Athletes also need that scheduled time out from training to recover and so to avoid overtraining. The relaxation aspect of massage is great for their mental game too.

If you're starting a new training schedule after Christmas, train efficiently and avoid injury with regular massage...start as you mean to go on!

7 in 7 Challenge Update

Congratulations to Lisa Markwick who just completed Day 2 of the Mizone 7 in 7 challenge, which is raising funds for the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation of NZ. Lisa as a support runner for Mal Law, along with Graeme and Greg, completed the Tongariro Northern Circuit, 41km of running in icy 50km winds, hail and torrential rain, on Monday 30th of November. Well done, you are awesome. Good luck to Mal and the rest of his support crew for the remaining 5 runs.
