Newsy news at Balance Massage

We are well into summer now, we hope you all are enjoying this fabulous weather...lots going on at Balance, so lets get into it...

ON-LINE BOOKINGS!!

You asked for it, you got it!!
We will be going live to you on Monday 22nd February, so by simply clicking on the Ezybook logo from our Balance Massage website you will be taken to our bookings page where you can see what appointments we have available in real time and book yourself in on the spot!! How easy is that?! No more phone tag! There is a one off registration process if you want to book yourself in, otherwise you can still phone us and we can book you in.

Look for this logo on our website from
Monday 22nd February
and in a couple of clicks you will have a booking and a confirmation email will be sent to you ...so simple!

Of course you can still book in the old fashioned way by phoning us or when you're here after your appointment, and it will be a great opportunity for us to update your details. We will still be sending out the Last Minute Massage email on Monday mornings to give you instant info on our appointments and any other news or specials.

We would love to get our Facebook page more interactive...if you have any questions about massage feel free to ask them on the Discussions page of Balance Massage Facebook and we will do our best to answer them.
Also any suggestions or comments we would love to hear them....our practice is about YOU, so lets hear from YOU and we can make our clinic better for YOU!

Road Works! Again!

Look out for road works on Jervois Rd from February...this is affecting traffic on Redmond St (one way street at the end of Ponsonby Rd; getting to Blake St), up College Hill also affected.
Allow at least an extra 10 minutes to get to your appointment.
At least we can't hear them this time!!

Price Increase (teeny tiny)

For the last two years Balance Massage has charged the same rates for top quality services that we provide despite rising costs. Unfortunately we could not hold off inflationary pressures any longer and our increase will be effective 1st March 2010. We have kept it as low as possible at $5 per session to ensure that we can retain our level of top quality massage and customer service to you our client.

As we are always looking to improve your Balance experience we are also introducing an exciting on-line booking system (see above) which gives you more freedom to book on the spot and secure the massage time you want.

We value you highly as a client and want to continue serving you, so if you have any questions or concerns about this increase, please give us a call.

Summer Sports means Sports Massage

Whether social, for fitness or competition level, massage can enhance performance by preventing injury, maintaining good condition as well as providing rehabilitation following an injury. Regular massage makes an important contribution to soft tissue recovery from the effects of training and competing.

Effects of Training

A certain amount of muscle tone present in the body is healthy but with excessive tone associated with intense, prolonged training there may be harmful effects. Excessive tone often occurs during increased intensity, volume or a change in programme.

Possible side effects

  • Decreased oxygen and nutrients are being supplied to the cells
  • Increased stress on ligaments and tendons
  • Pain receptors may be triggered causing pain and spasm
  • Possible muscle imbalances
  • Decreased strength
  • Microtrauma of soft tissue, oedema and inflammation

Massage can effectively counteract these effects. In the application of massage we can:

  • Increase blood flow bringing oxygen and nutrients to the soft tissue essential for growth and repair
  • Flush out metabolic waste (toxins, lactic acid)
  • Improve flexibility
  • Identify trouble areas and help eliminate them, break down scar tissue and adhesions from old injuries
  • Increase your awareness to help assist with recovery

Regular massage can reduce recovery time from training or event by up to 50%, which can normally take 48—72 hours when doing high intensity exercise. Massage also benefits other systems of the body such as digestive, immune, neurological and respiratory. And it feels good!

Your sports massage therapists at Balance will work together with you taking into consideration your training and events schedule, using various techniques, and may offer advice on stretching, strengthening exercises, nutrition and use a network of health professionals to provide you with the very best service possible to get the results you need.
