Food for Thought...

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.

- Sir Winston Churchill, 1874-1965

Colds, Flus, and Massage

Just a reminder to all our clients at this time of year that if you have a cold or flu it is not advisable to have a massage.
Massage releases toxins out of the muscle tissue and into the lymphatic system to be flushed out, the body is already dealing with enough toxins from bugs if you have a cold or flu therefore you can feel a lot worse before you feel better.
And of course you may very well be contagious.
If you do show up for your appointment quite sick, we do reserve the right to reschedule your appointment to a more appropriate time.
If your unsure whether you should have a massage or not please call us for advise.
If you need to cancel please do so at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Thank you for your understanding.

Escaping the winter blues

What a wonderful way to go on vacation at this time of year… just 60 minutes of escapism and you don’t even have to leave town!! Nothing is more relaxing than a cosy clinic room and the sound of rain on the roof while we melt away all your knots, tension and stress!

Here’s a few tips to keep healthy this winter and so you don’t miss out on your massage!

Start your prevention and build up your immunity now with the correct supplements, vitamins and minerals. Here’s some sound advice:

Vitamin C: high intakes of vitamin C may decrease the severity and duration of colds and flu.  Vit C is found in most fruit and veges, but is especially high in kiwifruit, tomatoes, citrus fruit and orange vegetables.

Zinc: an essential mineral for normal immune system function; it provides protection against colds and other winter illnesses. Oysters are the best source of zinc, but more common food sources include lean meat and seafood, milk, breakfast cereals, bread and nuts and seeds.

Antioxidant Vitamins A and E: boost immunity by decreasing free radicals which cause damage to immune cells.  Vit A is found in liver, dairy and eggs.  Vitamin E is high in whole grains, seeds and vegetable oils.

Have regular massage! Research from the Touch Research Institute in Miami suggests that regular massage improves immune function by increasing Killer T cells.

Escape from the air-conditioning (which circulates the germs) in your office by occasionally going outside for fresh air.

Exercise keeps the cardiovascular system healthy and muscles and bones strong. It also keeps the circulation of blood and lymph flowing which brings oxygen and nutrients to muscles and flushes out metabolic waste. Exercise also releases endorphins these keep you happy and when you're happy you're healthy!

Time Out is important too. Stress impedes the immune system, so being cool, calm and collected can help too. Having a massage is a great way to schedule time out.

Sleep is also very important to the immune system. The body likes routine when it comes to sleep, so same time to bed and same time to rise helps the body stay healthy, wealthy and wise!

If you do feel like your coming down with a cold and you have a massage booked, please let us know as early as possible so we can reschedule it. See above in Colds, Flu and Massage.

Take care and stay healthy!!

See you at Balance.
